As I was reading the manual from my most recent training, I came across a great quote – “Accept yourself, learn your limits, and learn to drive pleasure from being in the practice instead of using the practice to punish yourself.”
What a novel idea that many of us forget sometimes; I too sometimes push myself to achieve the pose that I’ve seen, not honoring the fact that my body is not built for it or just not ready. This idea is very tied into the ego, and highlights how important it is to let it go of it once we step onto the mat. If we are constantly comparing ourselves to the person next to us or to the idea of yoga we’ve created in our minds, we will never truly understand yoga.
In all honesty, it’s not just about the physical practice. It has become the emphasis, but at the end of the day, there is much more to it. So learn to love the one you’re with, and truly honor your self with your yoga practice.
