This week I had the opportunity to teach a new class format (Yogalates, love the name) at a studio I have been to only once. There were all sort of new experiences in this one for me: brand new studio, teaching in the morning (I don’t usually teach before sunset), and PILATES! As everyone relaxed in savasana, it was a huge relief and moment of pride for me. If you had told me a year ago that I would be doing teaching Pilates and yoga at a new studio, I would have laughed at you, and now look at me. I will never know if they liked it, but they were saying thank you and walking (always a good sign) out the door, and I know that I did my best.
When we explore the space that was previously unknown, we begin to expand ourselves in that direction. Maybe you fill the void with your new knowledge and experience, or maybe you retreat, but either way, you will never know if you like something unless you try it.
The same goes for yoga, there are bazillions of poses that have been created or remain to be discovered, and they are all out there for trying. Don’t limit your self with “I can’t” or “I never”, but try something new and see what happens. Maybe instead of dropping out of plank after 5 seconds, see what happens if you remain for one more breath. Or what happens if you stand taller in Tadasana. It is healthy to test our boundaries as long as we don’t pass them completely.
So go for it! Try something new today! Just make sure you come out on the other side =)
