Do you suffer from knee pain? Whether it is from injury or onset of something chronic, Virasana (Hero’s Pose) is a wonderful and easy pose that can help. With the slight internal rotation of the hips and open position of the knees, you will encourage your body to replenish the synovial fluid in the knee capsules. Synovial fluid is like your body’s WD-40. It keeps the joints moisturized, so to speak, and keeps the bones gliding over each other. Without it, the joints and bones become dry and brittle and may start the early stages of bone issues.
Stay here for as long as is comfortable, even if that is only 5 seconds to start. The longer you stay here the better, but only as it becomes comfortable. As always, you should not work through pain – there is no gain with pain in yoga. Use a blanket under the knees, shins, and feet to cushion them and make the pose more comfortable.
Try it out, and let me know how it works for you!
